Georgia Marriage License Requirements

Minimum age
18 without consent
Blood test
no
Witnesses
no witnesses required on the license

In Georgia, applicants for a marriage license must present a government-issued photo ID and proof of age. The state does not impose a residency requirement; however, if neither party resides in Georgia, the marriage ceremony must take place within the state. Individuals aged 18 and older may marry without additional requirements. Those aged 17 may marry with parental consent, provided the county clerk receives a 15-day advance notice and any applicable age-gap rules are satisfied. Individuals under 17 are not permitted to marry in Georgia. A blood test is not required as a condition of licensure.

No witnesses are required to obtain a Georgia marriage license. The license does not expire once issued. Application fees vary by county and may be reduced for applicants who complete an approved premarital education course. Prospective applicants should contact their county clerk's office to confirm current fee schedules, detailed age-consent procedures, and all eligibility requirements before applying.
